“Dana’s initiative, passion and kindness to give back to our community through Anna’s Books is an inspiration. Need books for your classroom? Want to donate books for kids? Stop by Maple Grove most Saturdays 12-2pm and Dana’s there to help. My kids love to read and Anna’s Books have helped by having an awesome selection of leveled books for their age available in their school classrooms. I look forward to seeing Anna’s Books grow and blossom!”- Carol Barnao

Help Us Increase Literacy in Our Kids!
We increase access to books
The estimated percentage of homes with more than 100 books in Haywood County is 33%(Unite for Literacy). Lack of access to books and educational materials is the single biggest barrier to literacy development in the US and beyond (Neuman & Moland).
We give teachers and kids more options
Students who choose what they read and have an informal environment in which to read tend to be more motivated, read more and show greater language and literacy development (literacyproj.org).
We encourage well-being in kids
Reading promotes student’s overall academic success and well-being (ncte.org). It also develops thought processes, keeps the mind active, and expands viewpoints.
We help the whole community thrive
When the whole community can read, everyone can apply for jobs that pay a living wage, vote, understand medical instructions, navigate our community safely, and look up information online.
We help match kids with age-appropriate books
The number of age-appropriate books in a child’s home is correlated to their test scores. In low income neighborhoods there is 1 age appropriate book per 300 kids.
We celebrate diversity
All children need to see their stories represented in their classrooms to foster an inclusive, empathetic, inspiring, equitable, and safe learning environment.
